CESABIM, the catering industry library of BIM models developed by CESA, now contains more than 20 major brands, the association has revealed.
Electrolux is the most recent member to sign up, as momentum continues to build for the non-commercial database.
The initiative has been developed by CESA in partnership with BIM specialist, Schematic. It makes the specification and design of kitchens easier, by using BIM models prepared to a standardised format structure and level of detail.
Models for CESABIM are prepared in IFC (industry foundation class) format, which can be used on all proprietary software systems, including Autoscheme, ArchiCAD and Revit. There are over 150 BIM programs that support IFC files.
CESA, along with CEDA and the FCSI, yesterday published a joint BIM guidance statement for the foodservice equipment sector. From 2016 it will be an essential requirement for all public sector projects to be modelled in BIM.
Nick Oryino, chair of CESA, said that while preparing for BIM is a challenge, it shouldn’t be forgotten that it represents a huge opportunity for the industry.
“For suppliers, it means their products and data can be compared on a like-for-like basis, including elements such as energy consumption,” he said. “For designers and operators, it will reduce construction costs and allow effective planning and control.”
Every CESA, CEDA and FCSI full member can receive a free software license from Schematic that will allow them to download BIM-compliant models, Oryino said.
As of the end of April, the following manufacturers and importers had their compatible BIM models hosted on CESABIM:
